IELTS Speaking


Part 1 is about YOU. They will ask you familiar, everyday questions about your life. This will last around 4-5 minutes.

  • Your job or studies;
  • Your hometown;
  • Your family;
  • Your home;
  • Your likes and dislikes.

Part 2 is sometimes called the ‘long turn’. You will be given a cue card and you will have 1 minute to prepare your answer. You will then be asked to speak for up to 2 minutes.

  1. My first Pet Animal
    1. Everyone loves to have a pet animal.
    2. The most liked pets are dogs, cats, tortoises, birds and rabbits.
    3. We love them because they follow us or love us unconditionally.
    4. When I was hardly four years, I got a lovely tortoise from one of my uncles who was a fisherman.
    5. It was dark brown like all other tortoises but its height was unusually low.
    6. I loved the tortoise so much that I made a small pond in front of my house and named it Toto.
    7. Soon the two of us became friendly and Toto started waiting for me to come home from school.
    8. After two years Toto grew up like a giant tortoise and carried on its back my school bag to and from the bus.
    9. One evening, when I returned from school my mother appeared panicky.
      1. She informed that Toto had been missing since I left to school that morning.
      2. My brothers and friends went far and wide looking for Toto but we could not get any information about him.
      3. We went on searching for Toto for a week but to no avail.
    10. I still look for TOTO in ponds and rivers whenever I go out with my friends, family or alone.
  2. An accident that changed my Life
    1. All of us meet with minor or major accidents in our life.
    2. They range from minor fall from a chair, or from a terrace, or a motor accident or sometimes an explosion that claims lives.
    3. Each accident makes drastic change in our lives and teaches us some valuable lessons.
    4. Most of the accidents are due to crashing of vehicles, fall from heights or in attacks.
    5. When I was pursuing my post graduation, an accident occurred in my life. It was a Friday evening.
    6. My friend Rahul and I were riding my bike from college to my home.
    7. Half the way home, a dog jumped in front of our bike.
    8. Suddenly, our bike skidded and crashed into a wall and the two of us fell into a ditch.
