The Ruined Maid – Thomas Hardy

A country girl comes to the city and there she meets Melia, her old friend who had left the village years ago and settled down in the city. The village girl is amazed at the changes that Melia had gone through. Her dressing, her talking and her attitude and financial status had all changed. She is quite rich now, she talks a polished language and she dresses like rich ladies.
